How to make paper and fabric look old and antique
This recipie is perfect for aging hang tags, cards, cheesecloth, paper, and anything else!
Mix 6-8 Tablespoons of coffee with 2 cups water. (If you prefer a lighter stain only use 6 TBLS., if you want or prefer darker use the 8 TBLS. or more.) Get a container a little larger than your sheet of paper or fabric (I use a cake pan).
Pour about a 1/2 inch of the mixture into the cake pan. Put your piece of paper in so that it floats on top and the coffee soaks through the paper. After about 30 seconds I take my hands and push it down into the coffee. At this time you can use your fingers and crinkle the paper together for a wrinkled look or you can leave it as is for a smooth look.
You can also poke holes in the paper at this time using your fingernail. Carefully remove the paper from the mixture and transfer it to a large flat baking pan, smooth out as many bubbles in the paper as possible. Bake at 200 degrees until the paper is dry. When the edges of your paper begin to lift up off of the pan, your paper is almost dry.
For fabric I place the whole piece of fabric down in to the cake pan and let it soak all the mixture up completely, I then remove it from the mixture and ring out excess liquid and hang to dry on my clothesline or my shower rod.
